The first simple task we can do is rotate an image. If you ever turn the camera on its side to take pictures then you will be faced with this task to get an image the right way up to print!

Rotating an image without Paint.net: Yes you can do it. Windows XP will do it for you. Open your folder containing images in My Computer (this may be your digital cameras memory card). Then right cick o the image. You will get a flyout menu with two options on it: 'rotate Clockwise' and 'Rotate Counter Clockwise'. Choosing either will rotate the image 90 degrees.
Warning: if you are working with images directly off your camera memory card, if you rotate them, leave them on the card and then put it back in the camera, you may get an 'error' message fro the camera - because it can't preview rotated images! Always copy images to your PC before performing any editing on them.

First download the bear image. Either from the Samples Page or directly from this link.

Step 1
Opening an image

First of all, open the original 'bear.jpg' image, as you did in the previous task, using the FILE > OPEN menu command.

Navigate to the folder where you saved the image.

Windows folder viewOnce you have found an image, just double click on the thumbnail to open it.

Note that the view you may have in the dialogue box will depend on the settings the folder has. Use the drop down (pictured) to change to 'Thumbnail' if you need to.

Step 2
Navigate to your chosen file

Once the image is open, use the menu command IMAGE > ROTATE 90 CLOCKWISE to rotate it.

Now you can save a copy as a new image . Use menu command File > SAVE AS to do that.
